I saw an interview with David McCullough and he pretty much said John would have been lost without Abigail. :)

Did his book give you an impression that John would have been lost in politics without Abigail? Because it did not do that for me. I mean, it is all a question of degree for me. Of course Abigail had influence on him and woman as intelligent as hers, of course she gave him her opinions and I am sure John took notice and probably changed some of his ideas, decisions. Though I got the sense that it wasn't so much the legal things Abigail spoke about, but the best way for John to reach his audience.

It's been so long since I read the book (and I'm not sure I even finished it -- true history isn't generally my thing *g*), but I did get the impression that Abigail was very much by John's side, advising and such.

Well, the book is not exactly 100% true history either, no? I mean it is based on in depth research and on many many letters, but surely Mcgulough interpeted some things, otherwise he would have to just quote and quote, no ( ... )
