My friend who is reasonably fluent in Russian and adores Onegin says that he likes the Falen translation there the best.

I actually think the one I linked to is Fallen's. I have not read it, so do not know. I also think there is a free one available on line as well.

I haven't seen the film, but may if I ever come across it. I enjoyed the book, which I have read only in English, not being familiar with Cyrillic script - yet. The one I read was the Penguin Classics one, whichb I enjoyed well enough. It is probably every bit as good as the one you mention by Oxford W@orld Classics. I know I liked it and there was no awkwardness in it as there is in many translations.

Fiennes is way too old for the part, but the trouble is there are very few actors who are any good when they're young and by the time they are good, they're too old for their parts. Such is life.

There are several online versions, of which I give three:

(i)Project Gutenberg's, as translated by one Henry Spalding.

(ii)Pushkin Poems; and

(iii)The Literature Network.

Maybe a comparison of these by an expert such as yourself would be enlightening.

Yeah I would agree about the actors, too true.

I actually found first two online translations to be pretty bad. I mean they reflect the meaning, but to me totally not reflect the rhythm, the language ( the first one especially sounds much more archaic to me). The third one, literature network would just give me ads for some reason.

I clicked on the Amazon links, and you know, how they let you look inside the book, let you sample few pages of the books?

I actually agree with Nora, and think that Fallen translation is the best, or at least it is more to my liking I should say.

I linked to it originally by accident, I would have linked to any, but yes I seem to like it the most based on the sample pages. The one you read seems okay too. IMO of course.
