Graduation

So, I'm graduating tonight; that's crazy. I can't even really appreciate that fact yet. Anyway, I'm really excited, but I am also totally going to miss high school; school's a love-hate relationship for me and right now I'm big on the love and not so much with the hate, and so that combine with the fact that I'm really done is pretty scary ( Read more... )

also, for real, i wanna know whose idea it was to stick a square on top of a skull cap, and then hang a tassel off of it. it's just the most absurd thing ever.

SAME about not quite so real + harry potter, minus the disappointing part

Duncan: BAHA love this post, A+++

PS. Also, so true/ weird about the hats!! But if we think that those main subjects from Medieval times were kind of absurd (we do, right?), then what will the future think of our academic focus on math/science/english/humanities? And, what will THEIR four subjects be!?! I bet it'll be super science based.....hmmm

PSS. WOW SO LJ just taught me how to spell 'Medievel'....I honestly graduated high school thinking that it was spelled 'Midevil'.....intelligence fail/ schooling fail?

Academic focus changes with the times based on what is necessary for the intelligentsia. So Music, Math, Astronomy and Theology were important at the time when most knowledge was church based and so the other corners really just complimented Theology with 'science.' Now our education has become almost entirely secular and so we value similar themes, but with different subjects that attempt to train the attributes that are desired.

Humanities/English train creativity and artish things, similar to music did; math and astronomy are obviously math and science; theology can be seen as a mix of some scientific method (depending on how you research) and liberal arts method of humanities/english.
