Personality; Alibaba was born to the streets of Balbadd, the son of a prostitute. This could have ended up very poorly for him, but as it turned out, his mother was fiercely loving and protective of him-and quite possibly half of the neighborhood orphans, as seen by her adopting Alibaba’s best friend, Kessim, and Kessim’s little sister. Because of his mother’s devotion, Alibaba grew into a kind and caring sort of boy-though he grew up in rough streets, Alibaba was determined to make money the proper way, taking on small odd jobs as he could and was fairly popular amongst the local population because of his good nature. And for a while, things couldn’t be better for him and his content little family.

However, while he was still very young, his mother died of illness. For a time, he was left in a sort of limbo with Kessim, trying to survive. But then something happened-his father came to collect him. And his father was the King of Balbadd. Suddenly, Alibaba went from being an ordinary street rat to becoming one of the heirs to the throne. Alibaba underwent intensive schooling and training, mastering, amongst other things, five different languages and fencing. But life in the palace was vastly different from his life on the streets-though he never wanted for anything, it was never as warm as it had been with his mother. Alibaba greatly respected his father, but didn’t have the same kind of bond with him.

Time passed, as it does, and Alibaba’s father, who’s health had been failing since before he found Alibaba, also passed away, but not before requesting that Alibaba take the throne. Alibaba refused. That night, a group of thieves broke into the palace and stole massive amounts of treasure. Shortly before his father’s death, Alibaba had escaped from the castle, sneaking out through a secret passage. While he was out and about in the city, he ran into his old friend, Kessim, who almost immediately recognized him. Kessim, who’s life had not improved since Alibaba had gone to the palace, took Alibaba to a tavern, and for the first time in his life, Alibaba drank liquor and promptly got drunk. While drunk, he revealed the location of the passage he had taken to sneak out of the palace to Kessim. Armed with this knowledge, Kessim would lead the assault and robbery on the palace the night of the king’s death. Alibaba, ashamed, fled Balbadd, eventually ending up the city of Qishan, taking up a position as a driver in caravans, leading up to the beginning of the manga.

Alibaba is a fiercely loyal young man, devoted to his friends as his mother was to him. Though he initially didn’t have any plans to really make friends with Aladdin, he quickly develops a friendship with the boy, and when the two are separated when the dungeon is cleared, Alibaba is almost overcome with loneliness and longing for Aladdin. Later, (much later), when Aladdin tells Alibaba that he plans on setting out on his own for a time, Alibaba is so depressed he can’t be roused from bed and takes out his frustration on a serving girl-something which he would never otherwise do. He wants to treat his friends-and strangers, they’re people, too-as well as he can. Normally, he can be attentive to people’s needs and wants, though he seems to be somewhat oblivious to Morgiana’s, like when Sinbad took her and Alibaba to his treasury to find something for Morgiana to use-Sinbad offered Morgiana her choice of beautiful necklaces while Alibaba found some mean looking gloves. This may be because Alibaba sees Morgiana first as a companion rather than as a young woman.

Though he’s well aware of protocol and the other niceties of etiquette, he rarely acts like royalty, perfectly aware that there isn’t much difference between him and the commoner next to him. He is fairly intelligent, maintaining perfect fluency in various languages long after he left the palace and is also very athletic-though working in a caravan has helped keep him in shape. He can be very willful, but he’s determined to do what’s right for the people around him, nearly sacrificing his life and almost getting sold into slavery to save the life of a little girl that was riding in his cart. He can also be extraordinarily brave when it comes to defending what he cares for-trying to take down Judal, despite Judal very obviously being extremely powerful. All in all, Alibaba’s life is just as much his companions’ as it is his own.

[It’s been a week, and Alibaba’s exhausted every thing he could think of. Thoroughly investigating the walls and the halls he could get inside, pestering the guards at the gates, and even just trying to scale on top of the walls of the city, just to get a glance around. And he knew he wasn’t the only one looking-no one had been able to find any way out. It was almost ridiculous, and to be honest, it was making him feel more than a little useless.

Eventually, shortly after noon, Alibaba can be found on a bench in Gefion Park, looking listless and fiddling with the hilt of his dagger. He honestly is at a bit of a loss for what to do with himself; it might just be a matter of time before he could find a way out, but that was time he didn’t have. What could he do in the meanwhile, anyway? He could always practice fencing, but without Amon, it felt strange to use his dagger. Besides, he didn’t know who would be willing to practice with him. Some of the people here just gave him a weird feeling.

But he knows he can’t just stay and lay about. He had to get back to his friends, to Balbadd, and even if the only thing he can do is kill time, he can at least be productive about it. It couldn’t hurt to earn a bit of money-what if he could get some experience at helping run a shop? He could always do training on the side… who knew what was going to happen in the meanwhile.]
