There's no such thing as "some random soldier"--the singular of "casualties" is "person", and you've lost a very special one.
(I hope you won't be offended by a tangentially related and fictional observation, since I do tend to process things in terms of pop-culture mythology. I don't know whether you've been following Agent Carter, but the fellow in your icon--dead as far as anyone at the time knew--was casting a ghostly shadow over the proceedings throughout; an obsession with legacy and What Steve Would Do clearly drove a lot of Peggy's actions--culminating in her determination to keep the climactic Plot Prize from being abused.
Which, I suppose, is a meandering way of saying that I fully trust you to be the sort of person to carry on the ideals your cousin died for--and to do your darnedest to build a world in which other people's cousins [not to mention more of yours] don't have to.)
Oh wow...that was so beautiful. I actually read the last part to my cousins and we ALL thank you for your kind words, it touched our hearts.
I like to think of my cousin as another Steve (and believe me, i worry about Israeli Steve, even though we lost touch a bit from him working so hard) who gave his life so others might live, and that made us feel very loved and happy.
Thank you.
Sadly, Agent Carter is on ABC which has a VPN detector, but this summer, it will be binge-watched. And I do not binge watch very much.
Huggles. I've been grieving through muisc and the idea that the good that will be done in his name is immortal.
This song really captures how I feel right now, written for another soldier.
May the One who makes peace on high make peace for us in the autumn that you will not live to see, (Sean) and that’s why they’ve come here, from elderly to infants, from Haifa, from Gush Etzion.

Not a problem, it's not something I discussed much.

I just mourn for what he missed out.
