There's often a big gap between what people think they will do, and what people actually do in a life-threatening situation. If your life is genuinely at risk, you can behave in ways that are totally out of character. I think some of those girls would surprise themselves if they were put in that situation.

And then I think about the Columbine massacre, and how some of the kids were asked if they were Christian and shot if they said yes - and said they were Christian, knowing what was coming.

Let's hope none of us are put to the test in that way. I think your reaction is more self-aware than most.
