At first blush, Romans 5:9-10 would seem to preclude multiple deaths. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. I think, though, that a careful reading of John 1 gives us a theologically consistent way to deal with this.1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. I think that it is theologically reasonable to say that Jesus was not simply The Word (as most suppose), but that The Word is called Jesus the Christ only after becoming flesh and dwelling among men. Thus Jesus died once for the sins of men<, but The Word may become flesh and dwell among small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri, be named M'blbtkr the Blvchk

Personally, I'm annoyed by the "Superhero God" position, in which all of the mysteries of the Universe are answered by the argument that He knows all, (1) but isn't telling, or (2)but we've too stupid to understand. The whole thing falls apart immediately, but they keep repeating it.
