Consumerist society, what?

Ah, Earth Day.

MSN is plugging Dr. Seuss' book, The Lorax. Great idea, wonderful book, everyone should read it at least once in their life. However, their suggestion is that everyone go "buy the book, and we'll donate a portion of the proceeds to Conservation International."

Seriously?

I've got a better idea. How about we all take the money we might ( Read more... )

I know, right? Me and Mr. Nickels, he of the Water Bottle Crusade. Seriously, between you and me, I bet we could do some serious green....uh...stuff.

By the way, The Host is up to something like 215 holds at the library (I'm #50, lol) and every time I see that, I think of you and your comment 'you know how good a book is by how many holds it has'. I hope you're doing well!

Agreed. But, I read The Lorax long ago, so maybe I will get a different book from the library instead, but still do the rest that you suggested. Only, instead of planting a tree, I will plant my Hyacinth from Easter in my front flower bed so it can come up all pretty next year along with my tulips. Because I don't know if my landlord will let me plant a tree without permission.

Oooo. Hyacinths are better, because they smell really good, and people can wander by and "borrow" some for their houses without it looking like they've razed the bush.

I would think your landlord would let you do anything! He does sound pretty relaxed, although I can see where he'd draw the line at a tree. They do tend to get picky about that, don't they?

Agreed. I wish I could plant a tree. I looooved that book.
I think local libraries are being....used in weird ways lately.
My mom said that many companies are referring their employees to the Library for Tax help and ect...while at times where the library could be useful - they don't bother to mention them.

I know what you mean. I wandered in to the library today, and the section I usually lurk in had some woman doing some kind of talk on...something. It was distinctly odd.

I loved that book, too. If only because I think all factories should make a bunch of sweaters with hugely long arms, too.
