Vaguely human forms

Every now and again, I'll see a vaguely human form out of the corner of my eye, where no human should be, and it will make me jump. Normally this happens in the flat, but occasionally on the street. that happens to me quite often. though i suppose in my case i more often think i see animals, not people. especially when i'm walking the dog outside, i'll see a shape up ahead that i'm convinced is a vicious dog waiting to eat us but it always turns out to be a shrub or garbage bag or something equally harmless and inatimate.

and around the house i think i see cats out of the corner of my eye but i don't have any cats. or i'll swear i've seen the dog walk by when she's actually outside. and bugs! i always think i see bugs on the wall but then there's nothing there. oh god, the animal kingdom is haunting me...!

At least it's only dogs, cats and bugs. Imagine how disturbing it would be to be pursued by the shadows of kangaroos, cows, or polar bears.

Maybe it's a personal thing, but I think cows are arguably the most sinister of all the animals.

It may be something to do with the vacant expression they have. Or, perhaps, the fact that despite this vacancy, they sometimes seem possessed of a dumb malignity. OR perhaps, my suspicion that this occasional malignity is evidence that the whole of the vacant expression business is just an act!
