i hate macs, so i'd go with the ThihkPad.

...but then again, the last time i used a mac was twelve years ago.

erm, I wish, but we really don't have that much money :P I mean, that one would be well over $2,000 incl insurance, plus the upgrade...i don't think we could do that *shrug*. I'm just trying to figure out for my sake if it would be worth it for the extra probably over $300 incl insurance on the macbook...we could maybe upgrade the cheaper one? :S blah I don't know :(

I get discounts on IBM/Lenovo items such as this. Sometimes they're good deals, other times not. Lemme look into what I can get on Monday, and I"ll get back to you. And don't worry, it's available to employee friends and family, so it's all legit.

PS - I use a T42 and really like it at work.

thanks-these are throught JHU tho, and they come with a lot of extra things (like their software and promised tech support and back ups and such in case one breaks down), so my rents and I have decided I will go with one of them (there are 7 to choose from...) but thank you :)

You can buy 2GB of ram elswhere and upgrade it for MUCH cheaper than buying it form the apple site. I don't know the specifics but I heard it from a very reliable source.
