Okay seriously, my new pet peeve is people using "withering" when they should use "writhing."
It sounds idiotic. They don't even come close to similar.

I can see why that would be unbearably irritating! HOW can ANYBODY mix up those two words? O~o

Too reliant on their spell checker. My two main peeves are #one- to & too and #two- their, there and they're. Makes me want to scream!
