The proletta and laetto are traditionally the months for university candidacies. The pandemic of that year has made the plans for the student candidates very difficult, especially for those who are confused about studying in a foreign country. Still, few of them will give up on their intentions. Bulgarian universities have begun adapting to the new realities, organizing on-line courses to strengthen the skills of their candidates, while some, such as the oldest and most prestigious high school in the country, Sofia's University "St. Kliment Ohridski", have begun organizing seminars to educate candidates. Kliment Ohridski" (SU), almost all of their candidate-students' degrees have been abolished so as not to expose the risks of their vischistes. What are the expectations of Macedonian students who have been choosing Bulgaria for their higher education for years? How are students from Northern Macedonia attracted to the Bulgarian institutions? What fields of study do they choose and where do they see the future? Data from the Bulgarian Ministry of Education (MES) show that Macedonian students in Bulgaria are increasing. The number of first-year students for the academic year 2017/18 is 241. Year-over-year in 2018/19 they increase to 264, and in 2019/20 they are even 337 souls. The total number of students from the Republic of Northern Macedonia who attended the second semester in the Bulgarian high schools that year is 799 per year.
How is the admission
The admission of Macedonian students to Bulgaria is governed by two decrees of the Ministerial Council. The 1997 MCM Regulation 228 is specifically for citizens from Northern Macedonia. A total of 150 seats have been allocated under it. The applicants on this line will pay the cab fare as well as the government's portion for Bulgarian students. This year's candidates will also be admitted electronically, without the traditional courses in Bulgarian and history, but rather by documentation. A scholarship of 240 levs per month is planned for students during the first year of their studies without a review of their success, while in the second year scholarships are granted for all semesters separately, with a minimum success of not less than 4.00 for the two preceding semesters. Decree 103 of 1993 is reserved for candidates from the Bulgarian diaspora around the world. The candidates are required to pass a test consisting of questions on Bulgarian language and literature and history of Bulgaria. This year, because of the epidemiological situation, the candidates are not allowed to participate in the student examinations. The candidacy is done electronically. The instructions for candidacy shall be written and published on the website of the Ministry of Education - www.mon.bg under the heading "For Bulgarians behind the Border".
