Dark, slanted eyes began to open slowly. He smelled smoke, candle wax and...peppermint. His vision was blurry. He blinked a few times, trying to focus on something, anything.

Where was he?

A dark room started taking form around him, and his brows pulled together as he tried to make sense of it all. Why was he here?

Last he remembered, he’d been-

His thoughts were cut short as he caught sight of the concrete floor, and the symbols drawn upon it with chalk. Eyes narrowed when he noted the red candles, one burning at every tip of the star-like symbol surrounding him.

Looking down, he took in the sight of his body.

He was wearing nothing but a pair of shackles on his wrists which were attached to short, but thick, chains. Moving his hands closer to his body made it possible for him to see that the chains were secured to the concrete floor.

Dark brows rose up before he continued surveying the room around him.

It wasn’t a very furnished room; nothing but two shelves filled with books, and a table and chair-holding piles of more books-taking up space. The windows were small and very close to the ceiling. They were also covered up; making the multiple candles the only light source in the room.

A basement then?

But why?

Then the scent of peppermint suddenly grew stronger and his attention was completely captured by the boy who came into view.

Pale skin. So much of it. And that messy pile of light-blond hair on his head. It set into contrast his dark eyes, and the only piece of clothing that he seemed to be wearing; a black t-shirt which was much too large for him and that reached down to about mid-thigh.

Those dark eyes settled on him and an impertinent smirk spread those perfect, rosy lips.

“So, you’re awake.”

The words were followed by a soft sucking sound followed by something clicking against his teeth as he rolled his tongue over his lower lips.

That would explain the smell of peppermint.

“I thought I’d broken you.”

The blond boy approached him with a confident swing to his hips, then stopped just out of reach.

“You’re finally here...”

His smile softened around the edges, and his hand twitched at his side, as if he’d wanted to reach out and touch him, but had forced himself not to. Something close to reverence flickered in his eyes, then disappeared in a blink.

“Sorry about the shackles. I didn’t know how you’d react.”

Seated on the cold floor as he was, he had to look up at this strange boy. The expanse of pale legs and thighs were becoming a distraction, but he forced himself to try and ignore them at least long enough to find out what this boy wanted.

He cleared his throat a little, but his voice came out raspy anyway, “What do you want? Why did you summon me here?”

That pink tongue flicked out to lick at his lips again, then the boy laughed, almost arrogantly. Without warning, he suddenly sank down to the floor, crossing his legs. And that damned t-shirt was large enough to cover him up, and keep the demon guessing about whether he was wearing anything else beneath it or not.

“I saw you in this book a few weeks ago...Jongin, Duke of Hell.”

The title slipped off his tongue as if it was something delicious, and a soft waft of peppermint hit him with every word the boy spoke. He wasn’t sure whether he could smell that scent again without thinking of this beautiful human.

“And well. I decided I had to have you.”

The boy’s tongue flicked out again, wetting the corner of his lips before he grinned. “And now you’re mine.”

Both sets of eyes settled on the shackles latched onto the demon’s wrists before shifting up simultaneously to lock on one another.

“You see...I managed to fuse the shackles with the spell. You won’t be able to undo them, or rip them out of the floor.”

The candy clicked against his teeth again, and mischief as well as pride washed over his expression.

But then it was the demon’s turn to smile.

His tail rose from the floor behind him and swished back and forth, the forked tip flicking at the air like a snake’s tongue.

The smile curved the demon’s lips slowly, and it wasn’t a smile so much as a smirk. His previously neutral expression changed into something frightening.

Sehun’s heart skipped a beat, and the peppermint candy nearly fell out of his mouth as his lips parted in surprise.

The demon’s smirk had become big enough for his teeth to show, and Sehun noted that his canines were much sharper than those of a human.

Shit...this was not going like Sehun had planned.

“Silly human...”

The demon’s voice had gone an octave deeper, and his eyes filled with a dark fire,

“Your spell can’t hold me.”

And then Jongin yanked his arms up and pulled the shackles, chains and all, right out of the concrete with no effort at all.
