update:

we found a place.

between here and the gas station we saw a house for rent.  so we called on it.  it is an old house, but a bigger place than we have now.  the pets are no problem.  the only down side is that is is $800 a month plus deposit.  now, they have agreed to spread the deposit over the first few month's rent, making it $1,000 a
