Summary: Nana is restless and Iemitsu takes a few new chores.
Ever since the doctor had placed Nana on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy, Iemitsu, being the wonderful husband that he is, agreed to do everything around their small home without a seconds thought. He catered to her silly cravings, rubbed her swollen feet, even if she didn't ask him to, and told her she was as beautiful as ever. Better with each passing day, in which Nana would always say he was a liar, even if she was blushing and grinning like a young girl with a high school crush. But, he wasn't a liar, because in Iemitsu's eyes, his darling little wife was the best looking woman out there.
The Ninth had, thankfully, allowed him the time away from his duties to care for Nana and even demanded to know when the young babe was on it's way so that he could make an appearance. Iemitsu promised, telling them the due date anyway and agreeing to a phone call as a reminder.
"It should be sometime this week," he tells the person on the receiving end of the phone. Their reply is short and Iemitsu grins," I'm hoping for a son, but a daughter would be just as loved." His reply honest and the woman wishes them the best of luck before hanging up. He then begins to wonder about the names they had picked months ago and again, that goofy smile appears as he goes back to making Nana's lunch.
The week passes and still no baby. The doctor tell them not to worry, that the first pregnancy was always a surprise, that they rarely ever went how they were suppose to and one look at Nana's worried face and Iemitsu's stern gaze does the doctor stammer a new and better explanation. They leave the building with new worries, but being a very cool and collected man, he laughs and gently rubs his wife's large stomach, "Take your time, we don't plan on going anywhere." A soft bump against his hand makes Nana giggle and Iemitsu beam, "The baby heard you, darling! Aww, such a bond the two of you will have~" Nana's words echo through his mind and he resonates the aura of a proud father already. They make their way back home where he carries Nana's tired body to bed and once she's comfortable on the mattress they share, she asks him for one favor; to lull her to sleep. "Speak to our baby, darling." He smiles gently and settles next to her to begin his one-sided conversation with their unborn child.
The following Wednesday comes and still no sign of labor pains; Nana worries and Iemitsu kisses her forehead in reassurance. He tells her everything will be alright, there's not going to be a need for a Cesarean, and that the baby just doesn't want to meet the outside world yet. She nods lightly, and agrees for her afternoon nap. Iemitsu stays, gently rubbing soothing circles along her back before leaning in and whispering ever so softly: "Take your time." Once he's sure she's fast asleep, Iemitsu rises and exits the room to begin his household chores. Which, he had to admit, were beginning to become easier now that he developed a routine. First the dishes, then the laundry in between sweeping the floors which was only done after he finished dusting so that he could make his grand finale with the mop and bucket~. Oh yes, this chores business was easy, no wonder Nana enjoyed it so much.
Saturday night arrives and after a very restless Nana waddles off to bed, Iemitsu calls the doctor to schedule the operation. Iemitsu's calming words of reassurance were no longer working and Nana was scared that something was wrong with the belated arrival of their first child; believing it was not normal to be so long overdue, even if it was the first pregnancy. Still, the doctor agrees for the upcoming Monday morning and Iemitsu calls the Ninth to give him a promised update. The Mafia don tells him the same things that the father-to-be had been busy telling Nana all week. "My first was a month late, haha. Explain that this is normal, Iemitsu, the child will come when it's ready." The other agrees and shuts the phone off before making his way back to their bedroom and hoping to calm his very pregnant wife down.
However, he's not given the chance as Nana asks if he would be a dear and get her some watermelon; he doesn't hesitate and promises to be back within the hour.
"Nana~ I found the watermelon." He calls from the doorway, a bit louder than he should have considering the hour it was; these late evening trips were going to start weighing on him at some point. Still, if it kept her happy and stress-free, Iemitsu didn't mind. After placing the watermelon on the counter, he travels the short distance to their room to make sure Nana had heard him.
"Nana, I ha-!!" He rushes and she pants in pain, clutching her side and exhaling small puffs of breath and inhaling just as quickly.
"I-it's time!" She tells him once her contraction passes and losing his element of cool, a very pale Iemitsu scrambles about looking for keys that are clenched tight in his hand and for an overnight bag that sat by her feet ready to go.
"Darling, please remember to breathe. Just like they told us in class." She demonstrates and dumbfounded, Iemitsu mimics her. To be honest it made him a bit lightheaded and only a tiny bit dizzy-- Which, after shaking and slapping himself back to reality and his chilling cool, the excited father-to-be did what he had rehearsed weeks ago. First, he calls the hospital, alerting them of their arrival. Then he calls the Ninth and leaves a message with Oregano; they had been in Japan for almost two weeks waiting for this moment. And lastly, Iemitsu kisses his wife rather passionately and eases her up and down to the car. He leans over, once they are set in the car, and speaks to her stomach, "Tonight's the last night we talk like this." She gazes at her husband with loving eyes and he squeezes her hand before driving off in the direction of the hospital.
She screams and so does he, if only because he feels a slight tearing to his groin, a weird moving sensation dropping in his stomach, and man is his back killing him. Nana glares at him, shaking an IV wrapped fist, "Why are you screaming! I'm the one trying to push our child out---!!!" Another wail as the fifth contraction of the night hits and Iemitsu feels faint. Something was going to come out of him too, he just knew it. Only what, he wasn't sure, but it felt alive and big.
Hours pass, contractions long in between and the waiting room begins to feel impatient; all for the serene Vongola Don who just smiles and hums a cheerful tune. The young boy at his side glaring and restless as he shifts in his chair and makes yet another irritated noise. They all jump at the sudden cry of joy, "A BOY! WE HAD A BOY!" Tears begin to gather around honey colored eyes and the whole of the waiting room congratulates him. The younger boy looks confused, but he too offers Iemitsu a soft congratulations before asking if it was time to go home. Iemitsu leads the small group through the Maternity Ward and to a large viewing window. Row after row of small newborns' in their holders and with an excited tap, Iemitsu points the crying child in the front row.
"He's got some good lungs on him," he explains to the others and they all smile while they gaze at the boy, the only newborn, still crying..
