Did you trade it for something, somewhere better just to have it?

It really does seem that everything happens for a reason.

I'll be honest. Ever since Angkor Wat I have been in a slump. The sickness didn't help at all, and neither did my dislike of Cambodia in general. I went to new places, only to find myself still not where I wanted to be.

Travel was becoming a chore that had me sitting on buses while sick and ( Read more... )

I feel I've been in a slump with the whole backpacking thing for quite awhile....on and off, cause sometimes we end up in places that are beautiful and nice, but I just feel on edge this whole time, stressed, worried about my sister being sick, both of us being tired, the constant hassle of other people until Thailand THANK GOD, and yes, constant CONSTANT feeling of literal travel. Yes, sense of wonder, you've got it! That's what I need to feel. Impressed, awed maybe even, and relaxed in a mix with rejuvinated. Where is this Kampot you speak of? Not that every place will have the same reaction for everyone, by any means. Any suggestions for good nature places to go in Thailand? Or places in general here, or in Laos/Cambodia? My sister and I are needing to plan more out. And why was your Vietnam visa delayed? How long is it taking? There's a way to apply for it online or something, right?

I can't wait to get back to Thailand. It felt so much better than most of Cambodia has. I can't recommend Pai in northern Thailand enough. I spent 5 days there and still didn't want to leave. It is a nice, chill little town in the mountains. There's hiking and other stuff, but I had a great time just relaxing and talking to other travelers. Can't say anything about the south, going there after Vietnam. Pai was well worth is for me though.

Chiang Rai was a nice stopover town, if only because White Temple and Black House were really unique places to visit. Not much nature there though. Chiang Mai was okay. You can do trekking from there. That's all I did in Thailand other than Bangkok.

In Laos, Luang Prabang and Don Det (4000 islands). I loved both and still miss Don Det. The slow boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang was completely worth it, if you have time. 2 days floating down the Mekong is amazing.

Cambodia I haven't loved. Angkor Wat, definitely. Kratie was nice for a day, and Kampot is fantastic. Kep looked pretty, if you want ( ... )

I'm sorry that you've been feeling in a slump lately :/ Though not sick and backpacking, I'm in a similar slump. But I'm glad that Kampot has helped buoy your spirits a bit. Sometimes, even in a different country, a change of scenery is all it takes.
