I like your semantic quibbling over the robber's use of "stupid".

Also it sounds like you've really put thought into how you would rob someone:

"[He] didn't even bother to take our cell phones, or tell us to empty our pockets."

Or was that something you only thought about after it happened? He could also have taken your shoes.
