I Watch The Watchmen

Have not read the graphic novel.

Liked the movie.

LOVED the Rorschach character. Great role and a great job with it by Jackie Earle Haley (yes, from the original Bad News Bears. Far right in this picture). Scary looking now, but absolutely wonderful to watch ( Read more... )

I want to see the movie but never read the comic/novel.Would I still enjoy it and be able to follow what's going on?

Oh yeah. Easy. I never read the comic, either.

Everybody around my office is pretty excited for "The Watchmen". I wanted to see it until I saw the preview in the theaters...a super-hero movie that seems more dark and depressing than "Batman"? No thank you. I'll definitely Netflix after reading your review, though.

It is pretty dark. But it's broader in scope than Batman and I think watching it just for the angry social commentary is perfectly legit.

I have read the novel and my major gripe with the film is it is exactly the same as the source material until the very end. They appropriately cut pieces out (for time and flow, I'm assuming), but having read the book, I found myself bored because nothing was new or even remotely creative or imaginative. That and my disdain for Zach Snyder. I was curious to hear the perspective of someone who not read the book and am strangely glad that it pleases even those who are unfamiliar with the material.

But, come on, Laurie Jupiter had all the charm and appeal of Jennifer Garner phoning in a performance. Unbearable.
