What's in a name?

So I've was watching some TV the other day, and I was reading the Dutch subtitles to try to pick up some words...and what word do I see? Smeek! Now I bet you are wondering what it means?? Well, the answer is... beg. So I am guessing the Smeekens means like beggar or something or has something to do with being a beggar. What a proud history we have

Smeekens = begger... maybe that's why we like a good sale or are always looking for the best price. Grandpa was known as a penny pincher - lol
