I can find the RSS feed but I have never been able to figure out what I am supposed to do with it.

You would need to download an "RSS feed reader" from your favourite trustworthy software source... quite a few are available for free from places like SourceForge, last time I checked.

Or, you could see about getting Doc's RSS feed included as a Livejournal RSS source.

Then add "http://syndicated.livejournal.com/claessen/" to your friends list. I added the RSS syndication.
