Brush pen marker mixed with pastel this time. I think I do better when I have a nice strong outline. Too hard to make strong differences in color with pastel. @__@
Thanks! Haha, I was so confused earlier, I saw your response in my email, but later when I hunted for your comment on avatar_fanart, I couldn't find it! :D Glad you could see it though, since I won't be putting fanart in avatar_fans anymore--> I'm posting in the aforementioned fanart comm since it seems more appropriate.
In any case, I find it interesting that you see hopelessness in the picture! To tell you the truth, I was only thinking "contemplative", "night time", and a wee bit of angst for a fraction of the time; the rest of the time I spent wondering where to put the colors. But if you can see deeper into it, then that makes my drawing worth it. :D
Thanks! Mmm, I'm not too sure how long, b/c it was spread over a couple days. At first this picture was supposed to be completely different---I prob spent at least 30 min drawing and erasing. Then maybe add another 20 min to erase the entire thing and draw something new. Then add another hour for the bulk of the pastel, and some miscellaneous time spent doing touch-ups before spraying and scanning. Surprisingly, these pastels don't take as much time as a watercolor, pencil, or pen and ink. I think when I draw for a pastel, I keep telling my brain to make it simple b/c a stick of pastel can't handle detail, and as a result, the base drawing comes out much faster than usual.
Wow...Thank you for telling me the whole process. Sometimes I wonder how people can just sit down and draw a masterpiece, but knowing you go through a few ideas first before you reach the best one is encouraging for people like me, hehe. But, still, wow, this took you like no time at all, it seems, which is really cool. Yeah, I see what you mean about pastels and detail, but that's what makes them so cool. :) The colors in this are amazing. You are so cool!
