Sketch for a pic of a kung fu guy with his horse. Those vague lines down in the lower left corner is supposed to be a creek. Originally, I meant to do something all dynamic and tilty, but of course it reverts back to something staid and slightly boring. >:O Comment on the proportions, please! I want to make sure his shape is all right before I ( Read more... )

I think the head is doable if you have the right shadow under his chin.

The problem with his chinese-ness or lack of it--- it's probably better to stand him next to someone that's distinctively chinese. Most of sort-of-manga stuff we do is this weird ambiguous race, taht may or may not be white. That makes it hard to tell racial things without either going to big stereotypes and going super detailed.

Maybe try to give him a less long face and one that's rounder by a little bit? (shrink the chin upwards a little bit. Asians usually have a jaw/chin that's not quite as long as that) If you get the colors right, I think he'll look fine. Robe-wise, with the bulk, it can either be a lot of muscle, or a lot of robes. Or both, so the large body works.

isn't that horse a little too small or high up, though?

:O

Yeah...I think the horse is the right height if it were bigger. >__< But I don't want to erase it! I like it's head. Can I say it's on higher ground? >:|

XD Aahaha. WEll, if you say that the horse is on higher ground, then you need to draw the ground too, otherwise it just looks too small/high up.

Make it bigger. :P

Hi! I'm new at your LJ and already added to my friend list ^^; you have such beautiful scketches!!! what a style! I would love to have one developed by this moment, but I'm just working on it... yet ¬¬;;
BTW, I love this bishounen with the horse. Ok, he might not look soooo chinese, but is like a manga chinese type; for me, is more than fine. As well as the horse... it's head is not raised, so it may look smaller; however, take in mind not all horses has the same high.
Whatever... I'll post in other pics I found great here; sorry if I'm annoying ^^;;

:O Wow! I've never had someone I didn't know friend me! *friends back* Thanks, I'm glad you like it, though I'm afraid I will have to change the horse. I looked at some photos, and it appears a regular riding horse has a genormous head compared to a male handler. -__- *sigh*

How long have you been drawing? It took me quite a few years (make that all my life XD) before I finally had something I could call a style, rather than hodgepodge of other people's styles :x

Hehehe... I also had never be friended by a not-known person ^^; guess that is needed to be veery famous ^^;
About the horse... you might be right, I'm too much influenced by Chiho Saito's Kakan no madonna manga (set on the XV century).
How long have I been drawing?... well.. I think like 3 years. I used to have some style, but the thing is I was too much concern of looking to *this* or *that* artist and get stocked @@;; So I've started again, following what I like without having prejudments (or trying not to ^^;)
