Yes, it sounds serious, but they already fixed part of it (which concerns the running of the arbitrary code on your machine), so the only thing you need to do is to make sure that you allow installation of software only from the standard firefox servers (update.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org). (see the "workaround" in the link above).

The cookies hole still not fixed (it allows to steal your cookies => take over your accounts on some sites where you're registered), the workaround is to disable Javascript (but you can leave it enabled on the sites which you trust, i.e. don't visit strangers' sites with Javascript enabled).

Thank you! Although I have to put a sticky note on my screen to disable Javascript while I'm surfing as I'm sure I'll forget otherwise.
