I dunno. I can understand how upset they became over it, and I do bet that there were kids who needed to see shrinks over Optimus's death. Heck, the reaction of the kids who watched it was the main reason why they changed the GI Joe movie so that Duke didn't die.

But I will admit... Some of the kids in that article are taking it far too seriously. Not that I'm one to talk... I took many books way too seriously as a kid too.

Changing what happened to Duke had more to do with marketing, IMO. After all, why scare kids and get rid of a popular character?

Bucks win every time.

No. The writer actually has come out and said that it was changed due to Optimus's death effect on kids.

I still don't know why anyone freaked out over Optimus Prime's death. Before the movie came out I must have seen at least a dozen ads saying "Does Prime die?" and showing the fatal laser blast. Even if I wasn't sure that the Autobots were getting a new leader, that would have softened the blow, I think.

Of course, if they'd given away that much information about Harry Potter 6, adult fans would have whined like babies about getting too many spoilers.

If I were 10, 11 or 12, I probably would've needed some kind of assurances about things after reading HBP. It really was rather dark and disturbing, and I'm surprised that JK gets away with calling this thing a "children's series" anymore. Murder, betrayal, (possible) incest, etc.

With the things kids are reading in fanfic a little death and naughty sex stuff seems rather tame.
