and i still love the new bike..
it's been too freaking cold to go riding much, as well as the break in period has been hampering some of my fun... but over all it is been lots of fun
makes me wish i had started riding years ago..
still over at MS, and will be until March when the 100 day 'break' kicks in..

read it further, only just created an account... looks odd :) i
usually wear boots with ankle guards, so i haven't really noticed an
issue. have you?

check that out. i think i want one. esp if i should say, get hot
grips or a heated vest and want to know how my charging system is
working/etc.
not quite 800 miles on mine. i'm a slacker. need to get an oil change in and lube the chain though. been raining a lot.
tried to send this via your username @ lj.com but didn't work; i don't reliably use the LJ message system yet; esp from work.

i think this 'guard' is more a cosmetic item rather than a protective item since the part where your ankle goes tends to look a little rough on the edges.
i don't ride when it is truly freezing out, so i just bought a thick pair of gloves and glove liners, which are totally fine down to about 34 degrees.
IMO, bikes should be for fun, and too many people about spending way too much time and money putting things that are not really necessary on them.. beyond keeping the wires free of water, your hands free of cold air, your face free of cold air, and a good set of tires, you might as well just get a cheap diesel car..
i do like that the versys can run on regular octane fuel though. :) even though i run mid grade.
as for the chain, i have found that getting the chain waxed by putting it up on a rear paddock stand and letting the engine spin the chain around at idle is the best way to get an even coat of wax. just don't stick your fingers around the chain.
