As many of you know, I recently went to England. While I was in London, I had the opportunity to board the Golden Hinde II! I took lots of photos, so be prepared for a picspam...
Our first view of it, sandwiched between two buildings...
The front of the ship from the dock. It was impossible for me to get a full picture - the distance from the ship to the buildings was too small.
The rear view from the dock.
A close up of the figurehead...
...and from the side on the beakhead.
Several views of the bowsprit.
The length of the ship as seen from the half-deck facing the foredeck.
Looking towards the foredeck. The door leads to the fo'c'sle.
View from the foredeck, looking at the dock. I had a very nice curry pie in that pub.
View from the foredeck, looking towards the aft of the ship.
Looking towards the half-deck. The door leads into the great cabin.
The main mast. Note the convenient rope, ready to tie any intransigent gentlemen.
Mounted on the main mast is what looks like a crow's nest, but it's a particular variety used for snipers, and it's called a "fighting top." Just like Sir Francis.
A prop sitting on the half-deck.
My husband, standing on the half-deck. The captain's cabin is behind him.
Close-up of the wheel.
The mizzen mast. One of the great things about old ships is that you get to say things like "mizzen mast."
A cannon mounted on the stern.
The stern, looking into the great cabin. That little balcony is the gallery, a luxury bathroom for gentlemen. Common sailors had to sit on the beakhead.
Close-up of the mural, with Christopher Hatton's crest.
The lion head, used to frighten away penguins sea monsters.
