You are most likely doomed, but it can't hurt to try. Linen shrinks even worse than cotton as you've seen, and the damage might be permanent.

Uggh.

Huh, so I guess it's the opposite of what I thought then--the light-colored threads that shrank more are the linen ones.

I really liked the shirt, but I guess worst case I just buy it again. I got it at Uniqlo so it was relatively cheap.

It might be. Cotton takes dyes a lot better than linen, so if they were being cheap I can see it being undyed linen with dyed cotton. The texture difference is not that different, but cotton is smoother in general, linen is a bit scratchier. Just a bit - and if they were processed to be similar, it would be harder to tell them apart.

This would be kind of fascinating to do on purpose for non-planar textiles. Has someone done that?
