Nah, the political bias was shoe-horned into the show well before her arrival. Look at 'Aliens In London'.

The trouble is, they did it in an appalingly superficial way, just to make a statement. Can anyone seriously imagine the UN being able to make a decision in a day, let alone 45 seconds? Or the UK handing over its ability to use nuclear weapons to such a hopelessly corrupt entity? :)

It's like when Joss Whedon tries to write about the military. It always comes across as really cringe-worthy and unrealistic (both on 'Alien Resurrection' and 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'), but when he's writing about other stuff, he's fine.

In terms of cultural awareness, the new series of 'Doctor Who' tries a bit too hard, if anything and can age poorly, as a result. Just look at the attempt to satirise iPods in the Cybermen episodes or at the parodies of Trinny and Susannah's fashion show and 'The Weakest Link', on the last episodes of the first series. In about five years, people are going to rewatch those and think it weird enough - let alone, a ( ... )
