The end of an Era? (which might be good for once)

As many football fans have already heard Denver's Pro Bowl QB Jay Cutler has been traded to the Chicago Bears! This is already pretty big football news (Denver trading an all-star franchise quarterback?), but it's even bigger for any Bears fan.

As a Bears fan I'm actually pretty torn, which is very different than most fan's reaction. In the 20+ years I've followed the team, we've only once had what most would define as an "above average" QB. Somehow we still did OK (some years), but I'm glad to see us finally have one. And not only have one, but a young one who can be a franchise player for many years to come.

Unfortunately, (here's the torn side) we don't have the offensive line to protect him or receivers to throw to (don't give me the Hester argument). We definitely have a running back now, but I still have a feeling he'll be pretty upset (and he definitely seems like a whiny person). Then again, given what he's leaving in Denver I can sort of agree. He had a really young and talented O-Line and a corp of receivers. He's kinda dumb for demanding a trade imo.

More importantly (and the main reason I am upset), we gave up so much to get him. *Two* first round draft picks? Damn! I guess Angelo is making a statement that he wants a Championship run now, but well...if it doesn't work out, we really screwed ourselves for the future. I also really question if we have the tools to make a Super Bowl run. Maybe this isn't the only trade?

Lastly, I'll be the first to actually defend Kyle Orton. He wasn't a good QB (just average), but after the shit Grossman pulled, it was an upgrade. I kinda feel bad that for all his good decisions, conservative play and positive win ratio, he gets dumped so easily. Yeah maybe we would have never win a Super Bowl with him, but he was consistent and safe enough to keep us in contention long enough to retool our team into a contender a few years down the road. Now...we're kinda gambling with our future.

At the same time, I'd *love* to be proven wrong and Angelo to be justified. Bare minimum there's no argument now who has the best QB in the NFC North. Cutler is easily one-up (if not more) on Aaron Rodgers. Suck on that Green Bay.

I just can't wait to rub it in hitomi_sama's face when the Bears have an actual receiving game against Green Bay this year! NFC NORTH IS OURS! >:O

Anyway what do other Bears fans think? Happy? Angry? Ecstatic?
