hutch design draft 2

Ok, new hutch design. One thought that I had was not pushing the flowers up to the top of the frame, instead leaving the top of the flowers where they were and just running vertical lines straight up. I'd saved that as a draft as well, but managed to save over it, but if that sounds like something interesting, I can always recreate. I think that ( Read more... )

One thing Ifind very helpful, when thinking about color and design, is "storyboards". Basically using samples of some of the colors that will be nearby, to give a better idea of how it will all look together. (I've used this technique for wardrobe planning for sewing clients, as well as for "home decor" projects)

You might try getting a piece of foamcore painted in the wall-color of the living/dining room, and a piece of wood that matches the oak finish of the actual hutch, and any other bits that would represent other important aspects of the environment that the doors will be living in. And then include the image of how the doors might look. May make the color choices more connected and satisfying

Just a thought, anyhow

That's a great idea! I've put Beth on the collecting of samples and so Tuesday at lunch we'll go down to the glass store with samples in hand.... We did a pretty good job of choosing probable glass colors together online. Talked on the phone and kept throwing links to different glass back and forth over the net. All remote color picking!

Nice, you could also do the leaves that come up the sides dark purple (or some other colour) and make them buds, and break up the green a bit. I like it though. Oh, are those what you were talking about doing in red? Ha! Eyes, indeed. I still like it. I usually have samples of way too much before I/the client decide what we/I like.

Oh, duh, the yellow was the eyes! Oooo, now you have glowing yellow eyes. Is the flower an Iris? Will you see it as both eyes and a flower? I likely will. I'd still like to see where it is going, if you really want my opinion, but it's your piece and it's nice. And I'm babbling.

Huh, the more I look at it, the more I see an entire face.

Yeah, our brains are broken that way. :) I won't say too much about that to Beth though; she'd not seen the eyes in the first place and might be disturbed in seeing the face too much. I'm entertained by multiple interpretation art....
