005 - You Don't Need To See My I.D.

Apr 05, 2010 01:06

If you want to head down to the wilderness, make sure you're well-prepared. The place is literally a giant desert, with not much other than rocks, sand, and two suns. It's just as hot as you'd think, too; at least, during the daytime. I think I might have seen some settlement off in the distance but I didn't have time to explore it ( Read more... )

Two suns over a desert.

[Several minutes pass; he goes into the elevator, goes to that floor, looks out, sticks his head out... and opens the journal again.]

I might have to go out. A little before the sun sets, maybe.

I won't stop you. Be careful. Write if you need our help.

[A pause once the formalities are over.]

You seem pretty intent. Does it mean something to you?

Thanks. My right arm's not entirely better yet, but I can use it. Still, I might wait another day and hope that it doesn't change by the time I'm ready.

It's possible. That - just the smell in the wind, the way the sand whips up and gets abrasive, how the suns press down on everything. Of course, I might have just visited deserts in binary systems before. I'm going to have to see.

Where's the settlement? North, south? Are these hooded things from it?

No, the hooded things were just wandering the desert.

But the settlement will depend on where you get off the lift. It's pretty hard to miss, though. I think I even saw aircraft coming in and out of it.

The Scavengers keep a few crowbars around for digging things out. I doubt the boss would have a problem lending it out to the Adventurers. What do you need it for?

We've got some sort of magnetic problem. Locket, Light and I keep getting stuck together.

[A bit of a pause, as he has to take a moment to laugh about that.]

Sounds like quite the sticky situation. Bad enough for crowbars, though?

We're just sick of waiting out the magnetism each time. It's hard to get our work done when we're stuck like this... especially since Light works in a different job entirely.

Two suns? How very intriguing.

[Pause, pen taps.]

A desert, though. That seems [A few more thoughtful pen taps.]

Not the sort of thing you see every day, that's for sure.

Does it seem familiar?

[Pen taps] Yes, although the desert does not.

Don't suppose there's anything you can tell me about this place, then?

Thanks for the warning but... hooded things? Are they dangerous?

Not really. They crowded me, babbled a lot, and kept pushing junk my way. I think they were trying to sell it to me, but I couldn't catch a word of what they were saying. They were a little too personal, though, especially when they figured out I had a metal frame.

I see. [pause] What a strange place.

I don't know. It seems kind of boring compared to the others so far.
