Don't be fooled by the wilderness. It's not quite as fun as it looks ( Read more... )

If anyone can handle it, it's you.

This all feels familiar...

Yes. I feel like some pieces are falling into place.

I'll do some brainstorming. That aside... you'll be looking out for the human visitors?

Who's going to look out for you?

Don't worry about me. I've gone up against worse, remember?

[Pings. Vague ones, though - the Mysterious Stranger was billed as someone with no history, no past, and no name.]

Forgive me, but what do you mean by "The Man With No Name"? And what is a western? I believe that cacti are arid plants and saloons are another word for cantinas, but I do not understand the rest. Cow... boys?

A 'western' is a kind of movie... it takes place in this part of history where people were colonizing the western Americas. A lot of people were setting up ranches and homesteads, and their migrant hired hands were called 'cowboys.' There was this romantic image built up of them being wandering heroes that brought peace to communities and fended off criminals.

The Man With No Name was one of the more famous cowboy characters to come out of movies.

I see. [She has entirely the wrong image in mind in terms of details - but establishing homesteads and so on in the wilds gives her a ping.] Are these Americas frontier planets, then? And what is the weather?

I hate to keep asking so many questions, but I must. What is a movie?

Planets?

[Pen taps. This was something else...]

The Americas were a set of continents on one planet... usually the weather was shown as dry and dusty, and it almost always took place in a desert somewhere.

A movie is... well, a moving picture with sound. A recording. Usually they're made for entertainment.

One of them pointed his gun at me, unprovoked. That's against these thing's [pause] programming, right?

I'm pretty sure its gun could have killed me, not that I stuck around to find out. It chased after me, but I managed to lose it eventually.

That's something no robot should do.

Where was it? I'll take care of it.

That's too bad. It all sounded fun up until the shooting back part.

Being the hero's fun until you realize you're the one getting shot at.

I always thought being a hero required getting shot at, or otherwise facing danger.

Has anyone gotten hurt so far?

Nothing serious. And if I have anything to say about it, there won't be any further incidents.

It hasn't affected all of the robots yet so tracking down the violent ones might take a little time.

Alright, report anything else you find. Let us know if you need reinforcements at any time.

Hopefully that won't be necessary. But if the situation changes I'll make sure you hear of it.
