The layout on my journal is different... I'm confused... but pleased. Slightly.
List 10 songs randomly on your music player and say a little about each one:
)Hot Hot Heat, "Dirty Mouth" - Elevator ... I borrowed this album from work because my sister had the ringtone on her cell phone set to "Middle of Nowhere." I mean, I heard it all the time - I owed it to the band to hear the rest of the album!
)The Replacements, "Merry Go Round" - All Shook Down ... Paul played this at the two shows I saw. Such a great live song! The album is pretty hit or miss, but The Replacements at their mediocre is far better than most of the shit I hear on Top 40 radio.
)ZZ Top, "Woke Up With Wood" - Rancho Texicano:The Very Best of ZZ Top ... Does anyone remember that fairy tale movie about Mother Goose and it's all live action? Mother Goose has a son named Gordon Goose and Shelly Duvall is in it and Little Richard plays a king. Well, ZZ Top play the three men in the tub. That's how much they rock.
)Them, "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" - The Story of Them feating Van Morrison A great version of a really great Bob Dylan song. A song introduced to me by a guy from work. The self-proclaimed Dylan-hater likes what she hears, gives Dylan another chance and... converts.
)Motion City Soundtrack, "Better Open the Door" - Commit This to Memory ... I always forgot that I saw them live last December (I don't have a ticket). I remember Nate telling me about them last year and saying that the keyboardist does hand stands on his piano and shit. Intrigued, I went along and was sold.
)The Jesus and Mary Chain, "Blues From a Gun" - Automatic ... I actually downloaded this song when I was a sophomore at Ripon after Nate showed me "Head On." This band is a tasty enigma!
)Too Much Joy, "Sasquechta Hat Company" - Cereal Killers ... Best opening song to any album EVER. Contains one of my favorite lines usually used to describe Ripon (or Green Bay, or any Wisconsin town, really): "Fuck this town. Nothing's ever going down!"
)MC5, "Kick Out the Jams" - Kick Out the Jams ... The godfathers of everything heavy, loud, crazy. This song is like getting punched in the stomach and the head simultanously ten thousand times.
)Leonard Cohen, "Famous Blue Raincoat" - Songs of Leonard Cohen ... How have I gone through my life never hearing this man until now? Somber, heart-breaking. Kurt Cobain had it right: "Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld, so I can sigh eternally."
)Rachael Yamagata, "Reason Why" - Happenstance ... Another sad number. Reminds me of rainy days and regrets.
