Ever taken a moment to think about the people in your life and what impact they've made on you? Some odd combination of music, moonlight and the total lack of traffic on the roads the other night led me to pondering some deep subjects. (My total blockage on Notlar's story, for one!)
I've got some folks in my life who've made huge impacts on the way I think. My Mom, for one. (She's my hero!) She taught me that good food doesn't have to be tasteless, some of life's ouches are only really painful when you start to clean them up, and that we can thrive no matter what life throws at us. My Dad taught me that you can fix almost anything, and that what you can't fix will probably make good parts for something else. My oldest best friend reminded me just lately that comic books (even ones meant for kids) are still good reads. My Uncle taught me to frame a photo, but more importantly, how to look for a subject. My ex gave me the valuable lesson that when the communication breaks down, the relationship is in real trouble. One of my nieces taught me that "curly" roads are fun to drive. My Grandmother taught me how to identify a hickory tree even in winter, and when to pick the persimmons, which led me to really look at the world around me.
Come to think of it, almost every person I've known has taught me something, even though most weren't trying to.
Would I be me without all of them? Don't think so.
So when I got home, I posted a totally out of the blue thank you to everyone I know. And guess what? Not one person responded....
Subject for another moonlit road, I think. Fiction makes so much more sense than real life, anyway. I'm gonna go write.
Thanks for reading.
