Never Not Knitting

Whoah! Suddenly I have shedloads to knit for people, myself included, and it's gone Christmas. I have more things that need knitting than I have time to do them. OTN I have a pair of socks for a mini-swap on Ravelry, and I need to knit some Earl Grey Green for knirirr... I've also been trying to find vest patterns, as I'm discovering layering a knitted ( Read more... )

I know it's a horrible shop 'n all, but I bought 2 pairs of brown jeans for £15 from Matalan. They're of surprisingly good quality, given the general tat they sell in there.

Hm. I think there's a Matalan in Banbury, where we'll be shopping on Saturday... I'll have to check. Thanks!

That reminds me, I got the Yarn Harlot calendar for wobs! Must remember to take it in to work tomorrow (I didn't want to open it at home as I knew it would get forgotten about)...

Well done on your yarn bargains (yargains?) - I have got the Knitty Thermal vest hibernating half-finished in the box upstairs somewhere. Could have done with it in the office today, brrrrrr.

Bum. I think I didn't buy enough yarn at the JL sale to do that jumper, though I could do a vest.
*must investigate more sales*
OOo, YH calendar! I have envy.

I have several cotton potholdes that I use!! I like them better than the quilted ones I have,,,, the crochet adds more insulation than the fabrics.

I think more potholders in my life would be a Good Thing. Potholder mittens will also be awesome! Just need to find time to do them *has been neglecting work too long also*

Did you have to mention the Purlescence sale? I'm sure I didn't really need two skeins of Ultramerino in 'berry shades' to add to the sock-yarn stash...

Sock yarn isn't *really* stash... honest...

Would you like to come round and try to convince topicaltim of that?

I suggest y'all come over to mine one day, then he can see *my* stash, and will be grateful you don't have the same amount!

What I'd recommend depends, I think, on how you knit best. If you knit best by learning how and why things are constructed, or if you knit by diligently following a pattern, and seeing what happens at the end (I do that). I have heard excellent things about the Yarn Harlot's generic sock (in Knitting Rules, I think) - it has a guide pattern, and an actual pattern with gauge, and she writes well.
It also is worth trying more than one way of doing socks - I do mine on 2 circs, and had disasters on dpns to start. white_hart uses magic loop, so if stuff is going wrong, changing needles also bears thinking about.
Feeding "basic sock pattern" into rav will give you endless choices...!
