So a week or so ago, Makoto developed a bit of a problem on his face, near his left eye. He's been to the doctor a few times; and it should clear up soon

While it's admirable that you don't make assumptions, had you checked my profile you would have noticed that I went to elementary, middle, and high school in NY. While that doesn't directly answer either of your questions, it's certainly a pretty big hint.
