... I haven't written this much in ages. *wry grin* But apparently my travel journal was with the lost luggage (they don't know where it is, but "maybe it will come in on the same flight you arrived on today, and then we'll deliver it to you" - reassuring), so it's all typing for now ( Read more... )

I'm trying not to be too jealous. It sounds like you're having a great time so far. I'm enjoying reading about it.

Isn't Cairo great! I so loved it. The food is amazing. I like Arabic food and eat a lot here already so I had a blast eating there. The market is wonderful! If you are haggling, then think less than half the price. I had the advantage of being Latina and speaking in Spanish so as they know we live in fellow third world countries the start up price wasn't so high. They charge more to English speaking people... So, think less than half, that worked for me.

The men are really attentive so I don't think you are imaging it. They like complimenting women, much like men do here so that wasn't so weird for me. Be happy and glow in the compliments. A smile can get you a discount ^-^

Driving was crazy! Bogotá is almost as chaotic as that but not quite. I got to drive there and did just fine, which shows that if you drive in Bogotá you can drive anywhere, even Cairo.

Have lots of fun there. I had a great time. Oh and I got you card! Thank you so much! It was beautiful ^-^

Cairo was _amazing_. The food was fabulous - the only time I was sick from food poisoning was when i was in Dahab, on the Sinai penninsula, actually. Thank you for the suggestions about haggling - it was very helpful! Actually, my cousin is excellent: when I went shopping for scarves in Dahab she came with me and did the bargaining. The first "good" price he gave me was LE 490; she got him down to LE 270 for 14 scarves. Just under US$50 for 14 scarves ... not bad ( ... )

I'm so happy that you had fun! I had such a good time there too and I get the whole missing Egypt thing... It's a great place. You should definitely come and visit me! The atmosphere, the people is a lot like Egypt though it's also different in many ways. I would loooove to have you here and I'm sure you would enjoy it ^-^

Is it dangerous at all there? I mean, more so than any other place? I mentioned wanting to go to my sister and she looked at me with concern - but ... well, _you're_ there, so I didn't even think of it. :)

*laugh* Yeah, I noticed that part too. I love how they just honk before crossing intersections rather than actually _slow down_ and look for cars ( ... )
