An order of Pro-life, hold the hypocrisy please.

I'll give this to the American Pro-Life movement: just like any other solid and upstanding institution of modern American culture, they have become so riddled with hypocrisy that one wonders how they can possibly continue to hold credibility in the public eye. But like most other societal institutions, they have worked so hard to mangle reason ( Read more... )

The U.S. will not take a stand on the issue of the death penalty for a long time. It will only happen if we can make some money off of it or if it involves a middle class white girl getting lost in Aruba and all the sudden a media frenzy ensues because of its socio-economic status ( ... )

It has worked by reducing the number of gun related deaths significantly. I'd like to see a reliable source to your evidence that violent crime soared afterwards. Even if it did, I have reason to believe that the rate eventually fell. According to this list, the United States falls amongst a bunch of third world countries that are "uncivilized" as being the 25th most murderous country in the world, and 8th among gun related fatalities: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur_cap and http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur_wit_fir_cap The United Kingdom falls decently in place, but should be lower than it is. I'd say firearm hunting rights being taken away is a nice trade off for a few hundred thousand deaths a year.

Well finchfulton, it deserves a condescending tone, and if I'm bunching things together its because I'm angry enough to lose coherence. The reason its being presented that way (to jump to the end of your reply) is because not being aggressive and attacking the mentality is just going to win another round of the good ol' status quo, and as you can tell from the content of my original post, that's not something I'm too pleased with ( ... )

Pretty long post for mere speculation on one's identity, and if I had as much of the ego as you seem to credit me with, I might be downright flattered. Honestly though, why play games about who I am, since I'm not going to confirm or deny any speculation? Rest assured, I'm not getting some kind of juvenile thrill out of keeping people guessing, and if I was, you can be sure I'd be a little more methodical and careful about what I was letting slip through the cracks ( ... )

Whatever anyone else says, I appreciate this post. I'm tired of the term "pro-life" being, for all intents and purposes, synonymous with "anti-abortion". Tired of people who self-righteously champion the cause of life, but only for those who are easy to love.

I think you became unnecessarily accusatory in the sixth paragraph (the one where you began addressing the reader as "you") and that might have turned some people off. Also based on this post and the previous one you tend to focus a lot on semantics. Definitions are important to a point, but a word is just a word when you get right down to it. I'd like to read something that focuses a little more on the actual issue. Other than that I quite enjoy reading your posts.

Your identity? I thought it was obvious given your friends list and the nature of your posts. The other possibility, of course, is that I'm completely wrong. Sorry, I know it's petty. But I never have been able to resist the urge to say "I knew it all along."
