The answer I really wanted to leave: "That sounds fucking gross, but I will not find you gross for trying it. I do, however, want to lash you repeatedly with a wet noodle for the mere mention of the travesty that is soy bacon. EWWWWWWWW. Disgusting and soy fake meat also gives me migraines."

I also wanted to leave something to that effect. I was definitely not option 1 but I've only ever had turkey bacon, not soy. So I went with option 2.

Fake bacon really isn't bad. I get Smart Bacon and while it's not as good as the real thing, like I said, it's not bad. Plus, Quorn fake chicken is really quite good, and good for you, and no soy in it.

Not bad doesn't = good. :P Fake meats in general make me shudder with horror. With my budget, I can be sick and eat the less tasty fake thing, or be healthy and eat the real, delicious animal thing (in general, with meat and fake meat, not just bacon. Because there is gross, icky bacon. I wait for sales and get the better bacon.). I tried to like em when I was veg. Wasn't happening. Just did without for the duration of being vegetarian. I actually *like* tofu, when it's prepared well, not as a wannabe-meat, but it doesn't like me.

....strange cravings, huh.

i increasingly find bacon unappetizing, myself, but unexpected flavor combinations are necessary. i'm partial to preparing spinach with cinnamon, myself.

my only concern about your experiment is that doesn't sound particularly healthy, even with soy. i knew friends growing up who used to put potato chips in pb&j sandwiches, or maybe you could make some baked kale chips and use those, instead?

I don't really like cooked spinach (except in spanikopita), but I love it raw, in a salad. And I love when my salad has sweet components, like apples or pears or candied nuts.

I'm prob not going to actually make this sandwich, but it sounds good. Maybe one day. I have a huge love of sweet and savory combos.

I've actually made those baked kale chips but I find them an annoying amount of work for the amount of food you get out of it. I don't know why but certain kitchen tasks I have no patience for.

*nod* spanikopita was what lead me to discover the cinnamon and spinach combination--someone made it that way in the women's group i used to attend. but i mean, talk about kitchen tasks for which one has no patience! filo dough is such a pain, it's not fair that the end result is so tasty.

cheese bacon is just cheese thats fried, cooled, flipped, and fried again. then drained and cut into strips. it's like that crispy cheese that always happens on the side of the plate at mexican restaurants.

meringue bacon is made from egg whites flavored with smoke flavor. it comes frozen, i think morningstar farms makes it. it's not called meringue bacon, though, i think they just call it bacon.
