Russell had seen the fliers, and he had debated coming until the smelling grilling meat made his stomach growl in the best of ways. Mystery meat it may be, but a good grilled steak of something was more than he'd had since he got here. Damn what he wouldn't give for a good piece of cow, still bloody in the middle and dripping with juices...

Oh well, that wasn't going to happen here, he already knew that. But he also wasn't going to pass up a party. He made a little detour to his storage room, grabbed a few jugs of his latest batch of moonshine and headed over to where the smell of grilling meat was strongest.

He waved as he rounded the corner "Hey there, smells like you've got somethin' good cookin' over here."

Russell put the jugs down on the nearest surface "I know I prefer beer with my meat, but this is the closest I could get my hands on."

As far as he was concerned, a birthday cow would be the best present America could hope to get. He wasn't going to hold his breath on that one, though.

Russell was greeted with a bright grin and an enthusiastic wave. "Heya! Glad you could make it!" He gestured to the pile of mismatched plates on the table. "Pretty sure I got enough meat here to keep everyone happy," he smirked. "So what'cha bring?"

Russell would agree that a birthday cow would be pretty awesome. Hell, he'd even try his hand at butchering it if it meant he could get a nice juicy steak.

"Sure looks that way, too bad we can't get any cow here. Man I'd kill someone for a juicy steak or a fucking burger about now." He grinned anyway, some grilled meat was fine by him either way though, and he wasn't going to complain about someone fixing him some dinner.

"This? Just some white lightning I cooked up. Finally got everythin' right, so I figured I could share it with everyone else. You want a glass?"

"I hear ya there, buddy! Unfortunately I couldn't sneak any cows." He sighed. "But some day...!"

America shook a fist in determination, but then he shrugged his shoulders. "But for now, we'll just make do. So long as it tastes good, can't complain, right?" He grinned. And when Russell told him what he'd brought for the party, he lifted his brows in amusement. "Seriously?! Dude, yeah!"

Mikaela is so there - a party (especially a 4th of July party) is definitely, definitely needed around here.

Besides, the smell - despite being tribble burgers - was veeeery inviting, and she found herself wandering up to the tables, eying the 'cake'.

"...Is that...meat?"

"Hey Mikaela!" he chirped, waving his spatula at the girl before moving to flip a few patties that were currently cooking. He grinned at her question. "Yep! ...I figured I had to find a substitute since things have been low in the grains department."

Rin was always up for attending a party, especially one that involved food. He'd been planning to show up ever since he'd caught sight of the fliers. This place could use more parties and less work anyway.

The young demon had never met the host before, but today seemed like a perfect occasion for introductions. He was immediately drawn to the grill, and visibly licked his lips before turning to the man in charge.

"Hey! Happy birthday!"

"Happy birthday," Yukio smiles, having followed Rin to the party. Mostly out of obligation to watch his twin brother and make sure he didn't cause trouble. But he also wanted to get a change in the scenery for once.

And a party seemed to be the right idea.

It was a great way to meet new people, definitely! America grinned over at the two- both new faces to him, but soon to not be.

"Haha! Thanks guys! Glad you could join us here!" He stuck a hand out, intent to shake Rin's hand, then Yukio's. "Also- nice'ta meet you two. I heard we had some new people but then I guess things went kinda crazy. Anyway! Name's America!"

He gestured towards the grill and the table. "Next batch of burgers is almost done, so grab a plate!"

Rin shook his hand readily and smiled back. He couldn't help a bit of a laugh when he heard the name, but didn't comment on it for now.

"Great, I'm Rin and this's Yukio." He jerked a thumb in his brother's direction by way of introduction.

There was no need to a second invitation. Rin's tail was already swishing behind him in anticipation of a barbequed meal. He grabbed a plate.

"They smell great..."

Considering she'd leant a hand for this, Toph didn't need to see the flyers to figure out what was going on. Even if America hadn't clarified the date for her, the smell and the gathering people were enough to put two and two together. Toph approached the grill, surveying the little set-up through her feet.

"Not a bad spread. You know, for this place."

"I consider anything we can get around this place a definite plus, especially with some effort!" America flashed a grin the girl's way, happy to see her.

"-but glad you dropped by, Toph! Hungry?"

Toph grinned back in his general direction. "I could eat," she said. "It smells pretty good, and you do owe me for the work I did."

He laughed at that. "Guess so, huh? Well, you should be happy to know that your assistance has paid off!" Still grinning, America turned to grab a plate to stack some patties on, fresh from the grill. "It would have been a lousy birthday without it, anyway- Here you go!"

He rarely missed the chance for a party, not because he was necessarily a party animal, but because he liked the opportunity to see everyone together so he could chat with them. Besides, there were usually drinks at parties, and sometimes decent food, even around here. So he'd shown up, bringing a bottle of alcohol as his contribution. Old habits died hard, and he hated to show up to a party emptyhanded.

"Happy birthday," he said, as soon as he saw America.

"Don! Hey!" America waved his spatula eagerly as he turned to face the man. "Glad you could join us! Grab a plate- and ooh hey! More drinks!" Gotta smile at that!

"You made burgers," Don said, smiling a little. Of course he had. Setting the bottle down, he reached for a plate. He wanted to ask America how old he was, since he hadn't quite figured out how this whole nation-as-a-person thing worked, but he figured it was a rude question, so he didn't say anything.

"I get the feeling everyone is going to show up."

He wouldn't have minded if Don had decided to ask him after all- Toph had already done so anyway, but she didn't seem to believe him for some reason. "Wouldn't mind that at all!" the young nation laughed, wedging the spatula under one of the sizzling patties. "The more the merrier, right?"
