Battle o' the Bulgee_danAugust 20 2009, 08:54:49 UTC
Alas not easily adjustable - it's just one piece, no seams, joined with a bevy of studs at the front. Presumably a tailor *could* do something, but making a kilt hang right is actually kinda complex as I understand it - they use a monster amount of fabric and fold it in ways that only a CRAY supercomputer or an origami master could follow. What's more they have clever ways of making sure that 'boy bits' don't re-enact the Battle of the Bulge. I'm not at all sanguine that a Melbourne tailor would be able to juggle all this whilst also making the waist smaller - not least because All Tailors In Melbourne (tm) are either Italian or Greek, old, and male: let's just say they won't bust a gut to make sure a man looks good in a skirt ;)
Re the kilt, as I mentioned to Babylon (above), the kilt is, alas, not easily adjustable - it's just one piece, no seams, joined with a bevy of studs at the front. Presumably a dry-cleaner (e.g. the one I took my trousers to to take in the waist today) *could* do something, but making a kilt hang right is actually fkn complex as I understand it - they use a monster amount of fabric and fold it in ways that only a CRAY supercomputer or an origami master could follow. What's more they have clever ways of making sure that 'boy bits' don't re-enact the Battle of the Bulge. I'm not at all sanguine that a Melbourne tailor would be able to recreate this - not least because All Tailors In Melbourne (tm) are either Italian or Greek, old, and male: let's just say they won't bust a gut to make sure a man looks good in a skirt ;)
The brief moments I got to wear the kilt, though - man it looks good. ms was very approving xx
