I am mock bemused at the way the opponents to the new law are claiming that the reason for their opposition is that it is giving them a freedom that they'd rather not have, given that they would still be free to ignore the new freedom.
In reality I can understand the opposition on at least two counts - one is that people often resent others being given freedoms they have learned to live without, and the other is that cages can get very comfortable. Neither of these are particularly palatable to own up to, to oneself never mind others. Far easier to say "this new law makes me uncomfortable and I have no need of it, hence I would rather it not be enacted"
