Slowly, and I mean SLOWLY getting back into the swing of things. This disassociation of day-to-day consistency from my life that took place this summer continues to bleed vaguely into the symphony season. By October the season will be in full swing, but we're still doing specials and pops stuff for now. Does anyone know much about Antony and the ( Read more... )

Some day I'll have to run away for a weekend and catch a performance.

I was there at the Antony concert--it was one of the more beautiful things I've ever seen. If you want a recommendation, my favorite Antony song is "The Lake" off the Live at St. Olave's EP.

Thanks for coming! Although at the rehearsal I didn't feel like the orchestra was doing much, I think in a way it's just how placid the music can be. The opening song, "Mysteries of Love," which was mostly a lot of slow, quiet, sustained chords ended up being one of my favorites. In talking to my colleagues, I think the feeling was pretty mutual. In the end, I think the orchestra really appreciated Antony's songwriting, and he was very professional and courteous in rehearsals. Oh, and feel free to say 'hi' if you happen to come to an OSO show again!

I wouldn't have missed it--it seems like all his concerts since I started listening to him have been in Europe or on the east coast. I'm not sure if Antony wrote Mysteries of Love or not, since I'm pretty sure it's from a David Lynch film, but I also love that one. Hearing it in the dark was great, it really emphasized the incredible subtleties of emotion in his voice.

Yeah, 'Mysteries' was a cover, as was 'Crazy in Love.' I felt that both were just as strong as his own creations, and had very personal touches. Hopefully he'll be back on the West Coast more often, the musicians and management of the Symphony would definitely love to do something like this again.
