Is it wrong for me to say that, in reading my friends page for the last week today, it seems like we're moving pretty consistently? I think predictably isn't the right word, not only as it could be interpreted to have some kind of a negative connotation but also because I just have the sense of lives in perpetual motion. I feel like my life has been speeding up for quite some time now- not so much in terms of my day-to-day experiences, but rather in that the direction of my life's momentum seems to be solidifying. Fortunately, I'm happy with that direction, so it's all good right now...

I wouldn't discount the possibility that players being gay has a certain impact. Being out in a rather public way tends to make a person more comfortable with expressing ideas and themselves in ways that traditional masculinity is taught to suppress. As long as a friendly atmosphere is maintained, that expressiveness in even a few people can become infectious. It can certainly exist in other demographics, but there are so many hang-ups tied to emotions and their place alongside American masculinity that it seems a viable hypothesis to my entirely biased mind.

Good point! When I did a report on karaoke several years ago, I found evidence to suggest that spontaneous singing and dancing as a vital cultural component seems to have been on a exponential decline for the last few thousand years. If I had to cite a resurgence, the gay community would be one place I would look ( ... )

I wasn't trying to imply that the sexuality of the band's members was a deciding factor, but I do think that it contributes. You're very correct that without the leadership that they have, they wouldn't achieve the sort of success they do.
