Also, I think S3 has a lot of good stuff -- "The Zeppo", "Doppelgangland", "Earshot". bibliolicious is arguing for "Fool for Love", but I think that may be too character-dependent.
I wasn't so impressed with "Lie to Me" (except I loved the bit with Giles at the end).
I agree with you on "Fool for Love", but I fear "The Zeppo" and "Doppelgangland" may also be too character dependent (they both hinge on looking at one of the characters in a different light, which makes them interesting mainly because you know the characters).
"Earshot", on the other hand, is an interesting idea. I don't remember it very well, except some wonderful bits (Oz's thoughts!). There isn't much dependence on back story, then?
I just saw that last night after posting. It was indeed lots of fun. Plus, it had rat Buffy.
I wonder, though, whether this is one that boys will enjoy more than girls, in that it takes an adolescent fantasy (suddenly all the girls will find me irresistible) and turns it into a nightmare. Of course the fantasy works for girls too, but it is told from Xander's point of view.
