Paralysed father in row over purpose-built bungalow

Looks like my brother-in-law is causing controversy. Good for him, boo hiss for the Council!

The web comments all seem to be supportive (hopefully good for his case), even if some do read like they were written by Daily Mail readers.

The objection sounds like it is based on location rather than design. Can he build it anywhere else?

I don't think there's anywhere else in the village that is available and any more acceptable to the planners (they also looked for existing houses without success). They really do not want to move out of the village where they have so many supportive friends. Also, if the site is any distance from their present house, it would mean that Derrick could not effectively supervise the building (something he has some experience with), which would be a pity.

Indeed, and given the public support for it I think it sounds terrible that they'd refuse. While planning laws usually have a place breaking them for humanitarian reasons seems only to be fair. I'd add my name to the list!

Thanks. Feel free (but not obliged) to add a comment to the newspaper web site. My sister thought that might help.
