Again, I'm bored at work, at the whim of responses from other ppl :P Cleaning my office is just not appealing either.
I've been making a bigger effort to spend time with my family. So far we've been to see the latest Bond film Casino Royale which I thought was great for a Bond film; and I've taken my fam out to Gambaro's at Paddington for seafood and Hog's Breath at Indro for steaks and had coffee with them at the Staff Club on campus. I've also made a pact with my sister to catch up every month - she goes to uni where I work so it should be easy.
About 16 of us, my school friends et al, went to Mado Turkish restaurant at South Bank. It was too stuffy for us to sit inside so we sat outside. The dips wouldn't stick to the Turkish bread and the service wasn't great but the main meals were very tasty. Turkish ice cream has a strange sticky gelato consistency but good flavours and many Iced Cherry drinks were enjoyed.
The girly school friends also took a trip to Tomato Brothers Rosalie. We found the a/c inside quite chilly and they serve a few different salads, about 8 different pizzas and only 4 different pastas. They're tasty but nothing spesh - Lucky's in the Valley is my Italian place of choice. We stopped into Cold Rock Ice Cream afterwards (as Freestyle Tout was packed) and I somehow crammed 2 scoops of chunky monkey (i/c w. choc n peanut butter, not the Ben & Jerry's choc banana - bit disappointed) with caramel fudge mixed in. I've always found Cold Rock i/c to be a bit bland but this was nicer than I remember.
M and I went to the movies to see The Prestige with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johannson and Michael Caine, and it had a great story. Two stage magicians end up as rivals trying to outdo each other with better tricks, set in 1890s London. David Bowie also plays a cool Tesla helping the magicians build a machine. 8.5/10
I also saw Marie Antoinette with Sue and Cathy (after Tapas at Luxe in James St, Valley), starring Kirsten Dunst. It was wonderfully costumed but the focus of the film was all over the place - I was never sure what was important. It managed to pique Sue and my interest enough to look up Marie Antoinette on Wikipedia though :P 6.5/10
BCO played at the opening celebrations of Brisbane Square (the new Council building that looks like a large satellite with solar panels and childrens blocks stuck to it opp. the Treasury Casino). It was a hot day and we were crammed onto the stage to play an entire hour of music. Any audience were expected to stand in the blazing sun and jebus I think they hired a construction worker to be the MC. I had really wanted to hear Kate Miller-Heidke and the gamelan ensemble after us but it was too hot to stay. I decided a/c-ed sushi w. M afterwards was a better plan.
The Australia Day w'end was pretty full on. We went to Jarrod & Kat's BBQ on the Fri, I went to
fleen's concert and we went to Craig & Hannah's BBQ on the Sat, and
isi13 &
dreeft's BBQ on Sun. We were so well fed and in great company :)
Apart from that M and I have been catching up with friends visiting from overseas and interstate (Cath & Michael, Gill & Paul), friends returning to Bris (Stephen, Jason) and lotsa mates (Jarrod & Kat, Jacki & Nick, Cathy & Lionel, Sue & Stu, Jo,
norksy,
sirkahless, duXa, Kristy, Benno,
pulse01 & Crystal, Craig & Hannah, Mr Paul & Angie, Bretto) in general. We've been Wii-ing a lot (that writes better than it sounds...), I've been swimming for exercise (what a laugh - I suck at sport) and shopping with my newfound wealth :D
Also BCO has started rehearsing again and I'm recording with TDO atm (very scary). And far out, it's Feb already so it's M's b'day next week!
