Rebuilding the Defender

Some considerable time ago, my Defender blew up. Normally on the 300TDI engines, there's not too much damage when a cambelt fails; some bent pushrods and hopefully not much else. In my case however, the con rods punched through the sides of the block, pinging cast iron shrapnel around the engine bay and rendering the engine U/S. I could have had ( Read more... )

Hm. Is there any jewellery potential in the old engine, do you think ?

Nothing much springs to mind - other than pushrod drop earrings, maybe; everything about that engine is on the somewhat agricultural side. I think one thing I like about this engine is that it's actually quite easy to debug - I don't think I'd be happy with a more modern engine in it.

I'd forgotten how noisy those things can be... Might be quieter if I connected the exhaust though.
