Hey Annie! I owe you a letter, haven't forgotten, sorry it's been so long.
Totally hear you on the painting faster thing. But I think when you finished, how ever long it takes, it will be really worth it.
I've been taking longer with my paintings this year too, and as fustrating as it is at times (because I feel so slow) I'm A LOT happier with the end results! it's good and quite satisying to know that you've put in your very best effort. I think that's how you improve painting skills. I also have been doing some speed painting/painting exercises, that kind of thing, and it has really helped me not get so impatient.

Hi Lisa!

No worries! I don't think it's been that long! I wasn't worried at all! =D

I hope you are right about it being worth it. I'm actually almost done and I still have doubts. Some things that I think I did wrong. Other things though I am happy that I managed to do.

I've always been a fast painter, so having to be patient drives me nuts I think! heehehehh but so far, just like you say, it's been a great learning experience. I'm just being too impatient I think. I don't know why.

I've seen your latest painting (received your newsletter) I wanted to tell you how gorgeous I think it is. If I wasn't completely broke, I'd ask how much she is, but once I have a few bucks saved, I might go get a print instead. =)

Well, I hope you'll find it's worth it too. If it helps, with the Water Angel, I still feel like it could be improved on, a lot. but I take comfort that I did my best job for where I am right now and with what photo reference I had to go by. This quote from Julia Cameron also helps me going:
"All artists are doing better today than they have in the past and worse than they will in the future"

I know the more I know my medium, the more I push it - the more details there are, the more I try to do - the longer it takes. >_

You are absolutely right. I keep thinking that if I know the medium better is should be faster because I know where I am going, but since I am trying new things I haven't really done before, it would make sense that it takes longer.

I'm so impatient lately!

I agree... The more you want it detailed, the more time it takes, even if you know your medium quite well!

I'm pretty sure you are faster than a lot of artist, me included. It takes me forever to finish a piece of art... really...<(@_@)>

hmmmmm I don't think it's more detailled than usual.

I think it's the fact that I want to have work that has more volume. I find it really hard to do with watercolour compared to say.... computer or even acrylics sometimes.

I'm not sure I am any faster than most. With a computer maybe. But not with paint. This one, I've been putting 2 weeks into it and it's still not done.

And my other WIP (the princess and the pea) well I haven't even inked it yet, just the pencils alone must have taken around 40 hours. No kidding.

I'm getting impatient. =/
