Things are getting so hectic this week, it's completely crazy. Not so long ago, I had a hard time finding work, and right now, it seems like the next months will be very busy. (not complaining! This is a very good thing

Ooh~ I can't wait to see what you have in store for the rest of this series! :D
I have a block of super thick watercolor paper myself - I'm not sure what the weight is... but I bought it for $10 on clearance at a local art shop. It's rougher in texture than I'd like, but super durable! XD
Thank you very much Kitsy!! =D The next one should be the Queen of Hearts. I already have her sketched! heheh
The thick paper I got is still very very smooth, just like my regular paper, which is wonderful really! I can ink without any fuss, and it's so great to have paper that does warp because of water! Never thought I would enjoy it so much!
Wow, this looks really nice! And you're going to make a whole series... like all 52 cards of the deck?! o_o; The watercolour looks like it went down really smoothly and naturally - I think this paper is good for you! :D
When I did the background painting class in school we used to tape down the edges of the paper to a wooden board before beginning. This way, if they rippled/buckled when we put the washes down, they would still dry up flat (as long as the tape didn't fall off!) I think it's the same idea of having a watercolour block of paper where nearly all the edges are glued together (but we could only afford one sheet at a time in those days, so we had to use tape.)
O_O oh gosh no! I don't think I could pull off 52, even though lots of people suggested that I should do it.
I'm aiming at 5-6 to start. If I have inspiration for more, I'll do more, but to start, only a few. Next one that I have already sketched is the Queen of Hearts. =)
Yeah, I tape my paper exactly for that reason, but sometimes it doesn't dry completely flat and it kinda shows when I try to do even washes. Same thing happened with the paper blocks too. But the 300lbs paper.... is incredible! no sign of warp at all, it stayed flat all the time! (and I put a lot of water for that first large wash for the background) It's totally worth the extra bucks!
Hmm, I think usually when I see illustrated playing cards it is just the "face cards" (Jack, Queen, King, Ace), which is 16 illustrations. If you did the Joker too, then it would be 17. The only time I've seen entire sets of illustrated cards is for tarot cards.
Hmm, maybe I will have to try the 300 lb paper next time I try some watercolour painting. It sounds like it would solve some of the problems I have (although I suspect most of my problems are from lack of experience. XD)
